Following courtside conditions forcing the cancellation of some sporting games, Eurobodalla Council has supported their maintenance.
In recent weeks, at least one game at Moruya Basketball Stadium had to be cancelled because the roof leaked.
In a statement to Region, a council spokesperson said council was aware of complaints made about the facility.
“A hirer of Moruya Basketball Stadium contacted council’s bookings office to report a hole in the polycarbonate roofing,” they said.
“The roof has since been repaired.
“Requests for facility upgrades and repairs commonly come from local sports and community organisations, who are the primary users.”
According to council’s booking platform for the facility, the stadium features a full-size basketball court, six basketball hoops and backboards.
There are also mats, a canteen, shower and toilet facilities, as well as off-street parking.
Across Eurobodalla Shire, people can hire a range of sporting facilities for personal use, or for competitions, tournaments and other events.
Among those facilities is Batemans Bay Basketball Stadium, which is located within the Hanging Rock Sporting precinct (adjacent to the Batemans Bay Library).
Region understands complaints have also been made about the condition of this stadium.
Eurobodalla Shire Council did not respond to specific questions about the condition of the Batemans Bay facility.
Council’s spokesperson also encouraged anyone who noticed any damage or vandalism to the facilities to call 02 4474 1000 or email [email protected].
“Council’s sports facilities are maintained to a standard fit for purpose,” the spokesperson said.
“Council undertakes regular inspections of facilities to identify maintenance and other issues. Issues identified are prioritised for completion, subject to budgets.
“Council works closely with user groups to identify opportunities for improvement and to explore funding opportunities.”
