Every Movie Leaving Netflix in September 2025

Netflix is arguably the most prestigious streamer in the world. It has an extensive catalog of old, new, acquired, and original films. Netflix is constantly updating its library, which means that several new titles are added to the platform every month. But this also means that multiple flicks have to leave to make room for the new arrivals.

Several big-name movies are exiting Netflix in September. They include acclaimed Will Ferrell comedies, legacy action sequels, classic Christmas train rides, and gritty political thrillers where cities fall. Take a look at some of the best movies leaving Netflix in September 2025.

‘Anchorman’ Series

Leaving September 1

Well, that escalated quickly. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy spoofs the male-dominated local news culture of the 1970s. In one of Will Ferrell’s best-known roles, Ron Burgundy’s cushy newscaster life is turned upside down when a young, female reporter joins his team. Anchorman earned mixed reviews upon its release, but it has since come to be regarded as one of the best comedy films of all time. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues was the rare sequel that matched its predecessor’s energy, even if not quite at the same level.

In addition to Ferrell, the supporting cast includes Christina Applegate, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Fred Willard, among many others. Rumblings about a third Anchorman entry have circulated for many years, but nothing is official. Fans of Will Ferrell’s comedic stylings who’ve somehow missed this classic should check it out before the first of the month.

‘Sicario’

Leaving September 1

How many of you knew that Yellowstone mastermind Taylor Sheridan penned the screenplay for this Denis Villeneuve hit? The plot follows FBI agent Kate Macer (Emily Blunt) as she’s recruited to take down the powerful leader of a Mexican drug cartel. In addition to Blunt, the supporting cast includes Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Daniel Kaluuya, Jon Bernthal, and Victor Garber.

Sicario received multiple award nominations upon its 2015 release, though it did not take home any major prizes. It was a moderate success at the box office, grossing about $85 million. A sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, was released in 2018, and a third entry is in the works. Sicario is widely regarded as being one of the best modern action thrillers, and lovers of the genre should watch it one more time before it leaves Netflix on September 1.

‘The Polar Express’

Leaving September 1

Though it would make sense to keep this Christmas classic until the holidays, The Polar Express is making its last stop in September. Starring Tom Hanks as a variety of uncanny motion-capture characters, The Polar Express was the first movie to completely utilize the then-new animation format. We all know the story. A young, unnamed boy hitches a ride on a magical train to the North Pole just as he’s beginning to lose his holiday spirit with age.

Hanks stars as the adult version of the boy, the boy’s father, the train conductor, the homeless man riding on top of the train, and Santa Claus. Other faces in the motion-captured cast included Daryl Sabara, Michael Jeter, Peter Scolari, and Eddie Deezen. The Polar Express raked in an impressive $318 million at the worldwide box office. Even though the holiday season is a few months away, treat yourself to an early present by enjoying this classic one more time before the train leaves the Netflix station on September 1.

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’

Leaving September 9

Who says legacy sequels are a risky investment? Arriving 30 years after the last installment, Mad Max: Fury Road introduced the franchise to a modern audience. Picking up after Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, the sequel features a completely new cast racing across the desert. The continuing saga of Max Rockatansky still makes for engaging content, as Fury Road is ranked as one of the greatest all-time action films.

The cast includes Tom Hardy (taking over the ever-controversial Mel Gibson’s role as Rockatansky), Nicholas Hoult, Charlize Theron, Riley Keough, and Zoë Kravitz. Fury Road racked up an eye-popping 200+ nominations from a variety of award ceremonies. It went home with six Oscar wins, including Best Film Editing, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design. Mad Max: Fury Road showed how you do a legacy sequel right, and September 9 is your last chance to check it out on Netflix.

‘London Has Fallen’

Leaving September 13

London Has Fallen… off of Netflix, that is. This 2016 sequel to 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen follows Gerard Butler’s Secret Service agent, Mike Banning, as he attempts to protect the President from terrorists in London. It hit all the notes that you’d expect out of a political thriller, though to less critical success than the first entry. London Has Fallen was also hit with accusations of racism and xenophobia over its usage of Middle Eastern terrorism tropes.

It was a success at the box office despite this, netting $206 million against a $60 million budget. The cast includes Butler, Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart, Angela Bassett, and Melissa Leo. A sequel, Angel Has Fallen, was released in 2019. Though not a particular highlight of the genre, London Has Fallen should still appeal to fans of overly violent action flicks. Mark September 13 as the last day to watch this title on Netflix.
