Every ‘Star Wars’ Movie and Show Currently in the Works for 2026 and Beyond
Star Wars is going strong and has a bright future ahead. Ever since Disney purchased Lucasfilm in October 2012, the studio has committed to expanding the Star Wars brand. Since 2014, there has not been a year without some form of Star Wars film or television release. While the original plans for a movie every year shifted to an increase in Disney+ series, it appears the franchise is shifting back to feature films as its main focus. Don’t worry, they aren’t abandoning television shows; in fact, they are using Disney+ to experiment with stories that expand the canon, while others will take place outside of it.
2025 has been a strong year for Star Wars, as Andor Season 2 earned rave reviews that matched (and in some cases surpassed) Season 1. It also aired Tales of the Underworld for May the Fourth and had a successful re-release of Revenge of the Sith with a 50th anniversary re-release for the original Star Wars already set for 2027. Outside that re-release, Star Wars has several new films in development, including two with release dates set for 2026 and 2027.

‘LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past’ (September 19)
LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past is the sequel to the cult-favorite series that aired in September 2024. The new series picks up the aftermath of the previous season, set in a reimagined Star Wars galaxy where former heroes are villains and villains are now heroes. Yet when a dark force threatens to destroy this new galaxy, brothers turned enemies Sig and Dev must team up to save the galaxy.

‘Star Wars: Visions – Volume Three’ (October 29)
Star Wars: Visions is an animated anthology series that allows different animation companies to play around and tell out-of-continuity stories within the Star Wars galaxy. Volume One featured various anime studios, while Volume Two featured a collection of animated studios from across the globe, including Wallace and Gromit creators Aardman Animations and Wolfwalkers animation studio Cartoon Saloon. Volume Three will return to the anime format. Volume Three will feature a mix of original stories as well as sequel episodes to some fan-favorite shorts from Volume One, including the continuation of stories like The Duel, The Village Bride, and The Ninth Jedi.

‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ (May 22, 2026)
The Mandalorian makes the leap from the small screen to the big screen in The Mandalorian & Grogu, the newest entry in the Star Wars film franchise since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker (which was also shortly after The Mandalorian Season 1 premiered). Plot details are unknown, but it will see Din Djarrin (Pedro Pascal) and his lovable adopted son Grogu team up with the likes of Zeb from Star Wars: Rebels in an adventure where they will cross paths with the likes of Rotta the Hutt (Jeremy Allen White) and Sigourney Weaver playing a mysterious unknown character. Jon Favreau, director of Iron Man and the creator of The Mandalorian, serves as the film’s director.

‘Ahoska – Season 3’ (2026)
Seemingly a companion piece to The Mandalorian & Grogu is Ahoska Season 2, releasing three years after Season 1’s cliffhanger. Ahsoka is currently the last live-action Star Wars series set for release, effectively marking an end to the Disney+ era expansion of the franchise, which began in 2019. Yet before that ends, Ahsoka Season 2 is looking to hopefully finish its story with an exciting showdown between the titular Jedi (played by Rosario Dawson) and Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen). It will also hopefully set the stage for the planned crossover film between the various Mandalorian-related titles.

‘Star Wars: Visions Presents The Ninth Jedi’ (2026)
The Ninth Jedi is not only getting a follow-up episode in Star Wars: Vision, but it was confirmed at Star Wars Celebration that it would be getting its own limited spin-off series. It will be the first entry in what is being called Star Wars: Visions Presents, a banner that tells series based on episodes of Star Wars: Visions. The only detail revealed about the series is that it will explore the origins of lightsabers. The series will be produced by Production I.G., the animation studio behind The Night Jedi, and is aiming for a 2026 release date on Disney+.

‘Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord’ (2026)
Set between the events of The Clone Wars and Rebels, Maul – Shadow Lord looks to expand on the unknown period in the life of Maul (Sam Witwer), the former Sith apprentice turned criminal syndicate leader. Maul will take on a Twi’lek apprentice in the hopes of bringing down the Empire. Maul – Shadow Lord will not only fill audiences in on how Maul went from being the leader of the Crimson Sun syndicate in Solo to living in exile in Rebels, but due to its placement in the timeline, could tie-in and feature characters from The Bad Batch. Maul – Shadow Lord will air on Disney+ sometime in 2026.

‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ (May 27, 2027)
Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy is set to direct Starfighter. Starfighter is set five to six years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, and is the first non-book entry in the franchise to explore this untold era in the series. Ryan Gosling stars in the lead role and will be joined by Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and six-time Academy Award nominee Amy Adams. The Mandalorian & Grogu might be the first Star Wars film in theaters in seven years, but Starfighter will be the first true test of the franchise’s appeal, as it will feature an entirely new cast of characters and could truly mark a new era in the franchise.

‘Daisy Ridley-Led Rey Film’ (TBA)
Along with Starfighter, Lucasfilm looks to explore the post Rise of Skywalker timeline with a film centered on the character of Rey, played by Daisy Ridley. The film will reportedly be set fifteen years after The Rise of Skywalker and focus on Rey’s attempts to rebuild a new Jedi Order. Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will helm the project. The movie was initially slated to be Disney’s big 2027 Star Wars film, but it was seemingly replaced by Starfighter after the Rey movie had been delayed due to numerous changes in screenwriters, which included Lost’s Damon Lindelof and Peaky Blinders‘ Steven Knight. George Nolfi, who wrote The Bourne Supremacy, is now penning the script, with fans hoping the Rey movie can be Star Wars‘ big release in 2028.
7
Dave Filoni Crossover Film (TBD)
At the Disney Investor Day announcement in 2020, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that The Mandalorian-related series will culminate in a “climactic story event.” Then, in 2023, it was confirmed that Dave Filoni would make his feature film directorial debut with the movie that would tie together The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew. Since then, no word on the project has emerged, as Filoni has been busy working on Ahsoka Season 2, and The Mandalorian & Grogu was announced and fast-tracked. If The Mandalorian & Grogu does well, it is likely the crossover film will be a sequel and also the culmination of plot threads seeded across the Disney+ era of storytelling in what many expect to be a loose adaptation of Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire.
6
James Mangold’s ‘Dawn of the Jedi’ (TBD)
Alongside the Rey-centric film and Dave Filoni’s crossover, the other big movie announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023 was a James Mangold-directed film. The film has been described as a “biblical epic” and will follow the story of the very first Jedi Knight, set approximately 25,000 years before the events of the original Star Wars. The film’s rumored title is Dawn of the Jedi, but producer Simon Emanuel has seemingly revealed that the film would be titled Jedi Prime, although neither is confirmed. At the moment, it is unclear when the movie will be released, as James Mangold is also working on a Swamp Thing film for Warner Bros. in the DCU, and it is unclear if that project or his Star Wars film will take priority.
