Evri And DHL Merger Will Create UK Delivery Powerhouse
SHUTTERSTOCK.
In a significant move reshaping the UK’s logistics landscape, Evri and DHL eCommerce UK have announced a merger to create one of the nation’s largest parcel and letter delivery firms, writes Peter Brown.
The merger is still subject to approval from the Competition and Markets Authority, but if approved the united businesses will more than one billion parcels and an additional one billion business letters each year, positioning it as a formidable competitor to Royal Mail.
As part of the agreement, DHL Group will acquire a significant minority stake in Evri, which is currently owned by US private equity firm Apollo.
The merged operations will function under the Evri Group banner, with Evri’s CEO Martijn de Lange leading the new business venture.
DHL’s UK eCommerce business will be rebranded as ‘Evri Premium – a network of DHL eCommerce’, focusing on time-sensitive and high-value deliveries.
The merger not only consolidates parcel delivery services but also marks Evri’s entry into the UK’s business letter market, leveraging DHL’s existing UK Mail infrastructure.
The combined workforce will include over 30,000 couriers and van drivers, along with 12,000 additional staff, enhancing service capabilities across the UK.
By integrating DHL’s extensive international network, the new Evri Group will offer improved cross-border shipping services, with access to nearly 150,000 global access points. This expansion aims to provide faster transit times and broader international reach for UK businesses and consumers.
This merger is part of a broader trend of consolidation in the UK logistics sector, following recent deals like InPost’s acquisition of Yodel and Daniel Křetínský’s purchase of Royal Mail’s parent company.
The Evri-DHL partnership is expected to intensify competition, offering greater choice and cost-competitive solutions in the parcel and letter delivery markets.
