New Delhi: Maintaining their unblemished record against India at home is a huge incentive for South Africa in an upcoming three-match series, says Test coach Shukri Conrad.

India are yet to win a Test series in South Africa, losing seven of the eight times they have travelled for full-fledged Test series, drawing only once in 2010-11. Conrad backed his team to maintain that proud record.

India will fly out to South Africa for a two-month tour starting with a three-match T20I series, followed by as many ODIs culminating it with a two-Test series that ends on Jan 28.

India are beaten finalists in the last two editions of the World Test Championships, going down to New Zealand in the inaugural cycle’s final before bowing to Australia in its last edition title clash.

Conrad said his side is confident of getting off to a positive start in the new WTC cycle against one of the world’s top team.

“It is the start of a new ICC World Test Championship cycle and that itself is a huge incentive for everyone. The playing field is level and we want to try and ensure we make a strong start to this sequence here at home against one of the best teams in the world,” Conrad was quoted as saying by the ICC.

“Overall we believe this group has all the attributes to deliver on our objective, which is to maintain our proud record against India in South Africa.”
