Feast & Field Welcomes World-traveling Musicians From Pakistan

Thursday, July 24 at 6 p.m. — BARNARD —The Feast & Field Music Series continues its tradition of global musical exploration with a performance by Khumariyaan, a dynamic five-piece band blending traditional Pakistani folk music with modern energy and instrumentation. The concert takes place on Thursday at Feast & Field in Barnard. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., with sets at 6 and 7:30 p.m.

Khumariyaan, whose name translates to “the state of musical intoxication,” was founded in 2009 during a turbulent period in Pakistan. The band’s creation was both a cultural expression and an act of resistance. Their music features a blend of traditional instruments, such as the rubab and sehtar, alongside modern elements like guitar, percussion, and vocals. The group includes founder Farhan Bogra on lutes, Sparlay Rawail on dhol and lead guitar, Shiraz Khan on zerbaghali (a goblet-style hand drum), Aamer Shafiq on rhythm guitar and Attan dance, and Obaid Khan on guitar and lead vocals.

Before taking the stage, Khumariyaan will also connect with local youth during BarnArts’ Summer Youth Theater program. The band’s visit continues a tradition of international musicians engaging with camp participants as part of BarnArts’ broader commitment to arts education and cultural exchange.

Khumariyaan’s Vermont stop is part of a summer tour through New England supported by Center Stage, a cultural diplomacy program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, funded by the U.S. government. Center Stage brings international artists to the United States to promote cross-cultural understanding.

This season, Feast & Field has hosted artists from across the globe, including Colombia, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Kenya, and Haiti, alongside local and regional performers. BarnArts’ programming celebrates both the richness of world traditions and the vibrant creativity found in Vermont.

Tickets are available on a sliding scale of $5–$25 and can be purchased in advance at feastandfield.com or at the door on the day of the event.
