Female Iranian inventor awarded by UN agency
A female Iranian midwife and inventor has received a prize from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a United Nations agency for intellectual property.
Hasti Hosseini won the prize from WIPO at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva earlier this month.
She received the prize for her innovation, “Hasticell”, which is stem cell grafts from the fetal placenta membrane to repair wounds, especially cervical wounds, and the negative side effects of HPV on the cervix.
Hosseini’s innovation is a biological dressing made of amniotic membrane for the treatment of uterine wall wounds.
It was also granted IFIA Innovation Standard Grade A by the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations.
Every year, the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva rewards “the most promising inventions, contributing to the economic and technological development of a country or to the advancement of innovation on a global scale”, according to the event’s website.
The WIPO prizes are among the most prestigious awards in the field of intellectual property and are even referred to as the “Nobel Prize of the patent world”.
Hasti Hosseini was previously awarded at the Silicon Valley International Invention Festival (SVIIF) in the US for her innovations.
