Fiji will sign an agreement with India to fix medicine shortage – Prof. Prasad

Fiji will sign an agreement with India to address the shortage of medicine.

This has been highlighted by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad during fijivillage Straight Talk with Vijay Narayan when he was asked about concerns regarding the shortage of medicine supply and whether the government is considering changing its sourcing strategy.

Professor Prasad says he believes that part of their strategy, along with the establishment of the new 100-bed super-specialty hospital is to finalise a pharmacopeia agreement with India.

He adds the Minister for Health is visiting India this month and expects the agreement will be signed soon, allowing Fiji to source medicine at a lower cost and with greater efficiency.

The Deputy Prime Minister says they have now recognised what needs to be done, acknowledging that past approaches were not the most effective.
