Wall Street has suffered through its worst day since Liberation Day as investors smashed the sell button on technology stocks.
The Nasdaq composite entered correction territory, shedding an estimated $US2.5 trillion ($3.6 trillion) in total market value.
The S&P 500 Index was also down more than 5 per cent overnight, registering their worst day since President Donald Trump announced his sweeping tariffs that triggered fears of a global recession in April 2025.
The Australian sharemarket has copped it too. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 Index fell 115 points, or 1.27 per cent shortly after opening, as seven of the 11 sectors opened in the red, led by miners and technology stocks.
