All about the first AI-generated movie ‘Love You’

The Kannada film industry has reached a height by making the world’s first AI-generated movie, Love You. A priest called Narasimha Murthy, who lives in Siddehalli village near Bengaluru, had made the movie in a limited budget, time and without any actors, musicians, technicians or other members of the crew.
The 95-minute long Kannada movie has even been certified U/A by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This feat marks a milestone for AI-generated movies in the country. The film has 12 original songs and AI-generated dialogues. Murthy has contributed to the lyrics and dialogues.
Talking about how the CBFC reacted, he told TOI, “Even the regional censor officer pointed out inconsistencies in the characters’ features from scene to scene. Creating emotional expressions was a challenge, and lip-syncing is far from ideal.” However, the board was impressed by the ‘film’s ambition and innovation’.
Despite his claim, Love You is not the world’s first AI-generated movie as Where The Robots Grow was released in 2024.

How did Narasimha Murthy make ‘Love You’ movie using AI?

Narasimha Murthy collaborated with graphic designer turned AI technician Nuthan to bring his cinematic vision to life in a limited budget and time. Their two-member team undertook each and every task to make the movie in a small budget of INR 10 lakh.
Thirty different AI tools were used to make Love You in a span of six months. Most of their budget was spent on software licensing.
In the same chat, Nuthan stated that AI technology is developing so fast, the current tools are far more advanced than what they used. He said, “The tools we used are already six months old. If we recreated the same film today, it would be a thousand times better.”
