The Nuclear Power Institute (NPI) is dedicated to providing K-12 students and educators with opportunities to engage, enrich, and explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) knowledge, experiences, and resources while also highlighting nuclear applications, clean technologies, college programming, and career opportunities.
“We are excited to be able to host this event for our PSJA Family,” said Gina Saenz, Dean of Instruction at LBJ Middle School who helped lead efforts to host the event. “When I received the invitation by Dr. Valerie G. Segovia, Director of the Nuclear Power Institute at Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station to host a SOS, Science on Saturday, event at our district I could not be more excited about it. It made me really happy to be able to work together with a university partner and a local science teacher association to ensure that our students have learning opportunities that will allow them to become problem solvers, innovators, creators, and collaborators.”

Stations during the event covered topics such as weather, microscopes, DNA, electricity, ecosystems, and biology. Many of these activities were also in connection with the United Nation’s Sustainability Goals. PSJA ISD is currently leading efforts to integrate these goals districtwide.
“This is the first for PSJA, but I am sure it will not be the last,” said Executive Officer for Secondary Schools Dr. Iris Guajardo during her remarks. “We are delighted to have students from every grade level attend this event. Thank you to everyone who helped make it possible.”
