First issue of Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana’s law journal ‘Counsel’ released
The first issue of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana’s quarterly 70-page law journal ‘Counsel’ was released by Justice Surya Kant of the Supreme Court during the ninth annual meeting of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana on May 7.
The meeting was held with an academic session on the theme ‘Globalisation, Indian Lawyers and Emerging Economies’.
During the event, Justice Surya Kant, while sharing his experiences, spoke extensively on India’s growth story and rising international economic opportunities whilst reminding the legal fraternity about the need for structuring the existing legal practice ecosystem. Justice Kant stressed the importance of swift justice delivery and advised the bar council and associations to start training programmes for young lawyers at the start of their careers.
Bar Council chairman Suvir Sidhu called for the nurturing of future lawyers and spoke about the five-day visit of the State Bar Council lawyer’s delegation to the United Kingdom from April 17.
On the occasion, the Bar Council also felicitated Justice Harpreet Singh Brar, a former chairman of the bar council, on his recent elevation as the additional judge of the High Court.
Bar Council of India’s executive committee chairman Apurba Sharma, co-chairman Ved Parkash Sharma and member Amit Vaid were present at the event.
