Football, lacrosse summer camps set for coming weeks
By Anthony Richards
There are several summer camps coming up that a centered around a couple of different sports.
The PV Elite Youth Football Camp will be held June 16-19 and will be held each day at the Ponte Vedra High School football field from 9 a.m. to noon.
Boys and girls ages 6 to 13 will have the opportunity to step onto the same field that the high school players call home, and some of which will have surely watched games there from the stands but now they will get a different view of the field.
Ponte Vedra High varsity football head coach Steve Price is the camp director, and he will be joined by other members of the Sharks’ coaching staff to instruct through next-level drills focused on techniques, as well as games with players of similar ages.
They will get the chance to perform drills for each position group on the field, so they can see the nuances that go into finding success at each position.
Part of the experience will also include taking part in the “Shark Walk” into the stadium, just as the high school players do under the lights on Fridays in the fall.
The cost to take part in the camp is $150.
Another opportunity to work on football skills will be a one-day youth football camp hosted by former NFL defensive end Jason Babin.
Babin’s camp is free to attend and will be held at Davis Park from 10 a.m. to noon on June 21. Boys and girls ages 7-14 and off all skill levels are welcome to attend.
Although the camp is free, attendees are asked to register. Any questions can be emailed to pvaafootballorg@gmail.com.
An alternative to football is the annual lacrosse camp hosted by Nease High School scheduled for July 14-16.
The camp is open to elementary and middle school student athletes from across the local area who are looking for an opportunity to continue and develop their skill in the game of lacrosse, which has been called the fastest game on two feet.
The camp costs $150 per camper and will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. all three days. The camp fee can be paid by cash or check and brought on the first day of camp, and the registration form can be found by going to neaselacrosse.com under the camps and clinics tab.
Campers should bring full equipment, but anyone with equipment needs should email max.gurowski@stjohns.k12.fl.us because supplies on hand will be limited.
Each camper will also need to have a U.S. Lacrosse membership, which they can get by going to www.uslacrosse.org.
