Former UMD captain Brodt named CSS women’s hockey coach – Duluth News Tribune
DULUTH — Former three-year captain of the Minnesota Duluth women’s hockey team Sydney Brodt has been named the new head women’s hockey coach at the College of St. Scholastica, the school announced on Wednesday afternoon.
The North Oaks, Minnesota native previously spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Division III Hamline University. Brodt’s entry into coaching followed a five-year professional career highlighted by a PWHL Walter Cup with the Minnesota Frost in 2024.

Brodt is one of only two women’s hockey players in UMD history to serve as captain for three seasons. She finished with 98 points (40-58—98) in 141 games over her four-year career with the Bulldogs.
“I am extremely honored and excited for the opportunity to lead CSS women’s hockey,” said Brodt in the release. “I want to thank Jessica Cherry and the entire search committee for believing in me to lead this program. I am eager to get to work with the student-athletes and build on the program’s strong tradition. I look forward to making Duluth home again, and I can’t wait to join the St. Scholastica community!”
Brodt takes over for three-year head of the program Julianne Vasicheck who now serves as the Director of Recreation, Intramural Sports and Group Fitness at CSS.
The Saints ended the 2024-2025 season with a 3-14-1 record in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 5-19-1 record overall.
