Free night of talent ahead from Suncho School of Music
Students of Lilia Bogoeva and Bruno Parente to perform at Warehouse 231 in Montgomery.
When they’re not rocking stages as the metal band Karkaza, Lilia Bogoeva and Bruno Parente help students develop talents through their Suncho School of Music.
“We have students from all ages and levels,” said Bogoeva, a San Diego, California native. “Everything from 7-year-olds up through adult students.”
That talent is going to be on display during the Suncho Recital and Potluck Party, a showcase event 2-4 p.m. June 21 at Warehouse 231, 3500 Wetumpka Hwy., Montgomery.
“They’ll showcase a song that they have learned,” Bogoeva said,
The event is free, and everyone is invited.
“We want to invite people who are curious about learning music to come see what it’s like to be a music student with us,” Bogoeva said.
The styles will include classical, pop, rock, folk and country — with original songs and covers of popular music.
“It’s a place for musical inspiration,” Bogoeva said. “It’s a great live show.”
Because lessons are one-on-one, most students have not met before.
“I feel like I’ve grown a lot as a musician and I’m excited to play a song that reflects my progress,” said Elizabeth Bowles, an adult student performer. “And I’m also really excited to hear what the other students perform.”
The event includes a potluck meal reception where guests can chat with student-performers, and meet Bogoeva and Parente.
“We are very excited as a family to see our son Adan participate in the next recital in June of this year,” said Yadira Elizabeth, parent of student performer. “He has learned a lot, and every day at home we enjoy listening to the melodies he plays on his piano. Thank you Mrs. Lilia for being the guide who motivates our son to learn while enjoying his favorite instrument.”
Bogoeva and Parente will be performing also, but not as Karkaza.
“We have another project. It’s an acoustic duo, me and Lilia playing guitar,” said Parente, who is also Karkaza’s drummer and booking agent. “We’ll start the recital with this performance, and then the students will perform.”
Parente said their duo is a good way to break the ice ahead of the showcase. For a lot of the student performers, this will be their first time on stage in front of an audience.
“It makes them more comfortable,” Parente said.
Suncho School of Music opened in 2017 while Bogoeva and Parente were still living in California. Three years later, when they found their dream home in Montgomery, Alabama, the school came with them. They offer both in-person and online lessons in singing, instruments and songwriting.
“Our main studio is headquartered in Wetumpka, but we do teach some classes in Montgomery as well,” Bogoeva said.
