Mukesh Kumar Sharma, fondly known as the ‘Crorepati Bhalle Wale’, runs a popular chaat stall in Delhi’s Nehru Place under the name ‘Sharma Ji Chaat’. He has been serving mouth-watering dahi bhalla since 1989, drawing crowds from across the city who swear by his unique flavour.

What makes his story remarkable is the contrast—Mukesh arrives in a BMW every morning but sets up his humble stall on a foldable table. Surrounded by bustling corporate offices and one of India’s largest computer markets, his shop is always swarming with customers.

Mukesh says, “It takes about seven hours to prepare the dahi bhalla. I wake up at 2:30 am every day and open the shop by 9 or 10 am. It stays open till 7 pm.”

Secret Of His Chaat

Sharing the secret of his Dahi Bhalla chat he said, “A special masala made from 16 ingredients and moong dal bhalla topped with 40 kg of fresh curd daily.” “It’s all in the spices,” he adds.

He even offers a six-month guarantee on his chutney, made from dates, which, like most other ingredients (except salt), is prepared at home.

His journey began with a plate priced at just Rs 2. Today, the same plate costs Rs 50. The business, now a local legacy, is three generations old. His family originally ran a dahi bhalla shop in Kolkata before moving to Delhi.

Despite not having a permanent shop, Mukesh maintains high standards of hygiene and is known for his warm and welcoming nature. His regulars claim that the bhalla simply melts in the mouth.

Because of his hard work, commitment to taste, and family tradition, Mukesh Sharma now earns crores of rupees every month—all from a small chaat stall.
