Ghana to host 2025 ADEA Education Forum in October
The Government of Ghana will host the 2025 Triennale of the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) Forum, scheduled to take place from October 29 to 30 in Accra.
The high-level forum will bring together over 500 key stakeholders in education from across Africa and beyond. This year’s theme focuses on “Strengthening the Resilience of Africa’s Education Systems: Advancing Towards Ending Learning Poverty by 2035 with a Well-Educated and Skilled Workforce.”
Ghana’s Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, emphasized the forum’s importance in promoting socio-economic development through transformative education.
“Ghana is honoured to host ADEA’s Triennale in Accra. We share in ADEA’s vision of eradicating learning poverty by 2035 and building a skilled workforce for Africa’s future,” he stated.
“This platform offers us a valuable opportunity to showcase Ghana’s education reforms, engage with peers across the continent, and form bold partnerships that will uplift education throughout Africa,” he added.
Albert Nsengiyumva, Executive Secretary of ADEA, expressed satisfaction with Ghana’s role as host and praised the country’s commitment to education innovation.
“We are delighted to partner with the Government of Ghana for the 2025 Triennale. Amid growing challenges—from learning poverty to labour market shifts and declining education financing—we must build system resilience, promote peer learning, and accelerate the adoption of proven solutions,” he said.
Mr Nsengiyumva added that “Ghana’s leadership and innovation make it an ideal host for this pivotal gathering.”
The 2025 Triennale will assess progress since the 2022 conference held in Mauritius and explore new developments in education across Africa. Discussions will also align with major continental milestones, including the African Union’s declaration of 2025–2034 as the Decade of Accelerated Education and the outcomes of the 2024 Year of Education for Africa.
Key Sub-Themes of the Conference:
1. Reimagining Education Financing in Africa amid evolving global funding trends.
2. Enhancing Foundational Learning, with a focus on the FLEX2024 commitment to ending learning poverty.
3. Vocationalizing Secondary Education, ensuring sustainable TVET financing and innovative partnerships.
4. Repositioning Higher Education and Scientific Research, advancing sustainability and skills mobility in line with the AfCFTA.
5. Leveraging Evidence and Digital Technology to improve learning outcomes and data-driven decision-making.
6. Valuing Education and Skills Data to measure progress and ensure accountability.
7. Innovative Teacher Preparation and Professional Development strategies for the coming decade.
Over 1,000 participants—both in-person and virtual—are expected to attend. The first day of the event will feature an exhibition, followed by the official opening on the second day.
Following the forum, policy makers and education stakeholders will develop a position paper with actionable recommendations to be adopted by African governments.
