GOLD MEDALIST Responds to Controversy Over Sulli’s Nude Scenes in ‘Real’ Movie |

GOLD MEDALIST, the production company co-founded by Kim Soo Hyun and director Lee Ro Be, has issued a detailed response to the controversy surrounding Sulli’s nude scenes in the 2017 film Real, following concerns raised by her brother. The company expressed condolences for Sulli’s passing and clarified that the role of Song Yoo Hwa, which included a bed scene, was explicitly communicated to Sulli and her then-agency during casting. They stated that the requirement to be open to performing scenes involving nudity was made clear during the casting process. Additionally, they emphasized that the presence of nudity in the role was explicitly outlined in the contract, stating, “…the contract explicitly included a clause outlining the scope of nudity….”
GOLD MEDALIST released a statement addressing the issue, asserting that the script, character briefing, and contract all clearly outlined the nudity requirement and that Sulli and her agency had reviewed and agreed to these terms. They emphasized that the production team took steps to ensure Sulli was comfortable and well-informed throughout the process, denying any coercion. In response to her brother’s specific concerns, they confirmed that there was no body double for the acting itself, only a stand-in for camera preparation, and provided written statements from the assistant director and script supervisor to support their claims. The company also asserted that Kim Soo Hyun, who starred in the film, had no involvement in production decisions. They further stated that all decisions related to the scenario, storyboard, and other filming aspects fell entirely under the production team’s domain and that Kim Soo Hyun had no role in these matters.
Furthermore, GOLD MEDALIST refuted claims that they had contacted Sulli’s mother to pressure her brother into silence, stating that they do not have her contact information. They urged the public to refrain from spreading baseless speculations that could harm those involved in the film, emphasizing the dedication and time invested in its making. Additionally, they requested restraint, particularly in light of Kim Soo Hyun’s current situation. They concluded by asking for cooperation in preventing further unverified remarks.
