Good news for John Abraham fans, Tehran now streaming on Netflix after Zee5 debut
Bollywood star John Abraham’s political thriller Tehran has landed on another streaming giant. After debuting on Zee5 on August 14, the film is now available to stream on Netflix India starting August 27, giving fans a second platform to catch the action-packed drama.
Tehran’s OTT journey
Directed by Arun Gopalan and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, Tehran marks a rare move in the Hindi film industry — a non-exclusive streaming deal. While most films stick to one OTT home, this release is part of a growing trend of films being shared across multiple platforms. Maddock Films has previously done the same with Mimi (2021) and Dasvi (2022), which dropped on more than one platform simultaneously.
The official Netflix announcement added to the buzz, posting: “ACP Rajeev Kumar ki bohot badi zimmedaari ya qurbaani? Dekhiye Tehran, now on Netflix.”
Why this matters
Non-exclusive OTT partnerships are still uncommon in Bollywood, but they benefit everyone. Platforms get more content at lower costs, while producers enjoy a wider reach for their films. For audiences, it simply means more options to watch.
From theatres to streaming
Interestingly, Tehran was initially planned for a theatrical release. However, after waiting for the right opportunity, the makers chose a direct-to-digital strategy — a move that has now paid off with the film enjoying visibility on two major OTT players.
With John Abraham in the lead, Tehran blends action, politics, and high-stakes drama — and now, fans have two platforms to watch it on.
