Good News for Mumbai’s Food Businesses, Commercial LPG Rates Get Cheaper From Today – Details | Mumbai News
Good News Mumbai: LPG Rates Reduced – Check New Prices
Mumbai: From vada pav stalls to Irani cafés, Mumbai’s food businesses depend heavily on LPG. Starting today, the cost of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has been cut to Rs 1,531.50, effective 1 September — offering small but significant relief for the city’s vibrant food trade.
The cut amounts to Rs 51.50 per cylinder, according to Indian Oil Corporation. However, domestic LPG users will see no change. In Mumbai, a 14.2 kg household cylinder continues at Rs 852.50, the same price since April.
A Boost for Street Food and Hospitality
For many small cafés, canteens and snack vendors in Mumbai, which often operate on razor-thin margins, the price reduction helps soften the blow of rising food prices and overheads. Given the city’s reputation for its diverse street food — from pav bhaji and kebabs to late-night sandwiches — the savings, though modest, are expected to help thousands of vendors keep their prices more affordable for customers.
Larger restaurants and canteens, too, will benefit from the cut, with the lower rates easing kitchen costs across Mumbai’s busy hospitality sector.
Centre Steps In to Keep Prices Steady
The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recently approved a Rs 30,000 crore compensation package for oil companies, to be paid in twelve parts. Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said this intervention was key to keeping LPG rates stable across the country despite globalenergy market uncertainty.
For now, while households continue paying the same for domestic cylinders, businesses in Mumbai are welcoming the commercial cut as timely relief in one of India’s costliest food markets.
