Groups empower Rivers schools with digital infrastructure

Over 700 school owners, administrators, and educators recently converged on Port Harcourt to deliberate on how to empower school leaders with practical digital knowledge and tools to drive innovation in education.

The programme, themed: ‘Unlocking school growth through innovation,” and facilitated by CloudNotte, an education technology company, in collaboration with the Bank of Industry (BoI) and the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Rivers State chapter, highlighted the importance of digital transformation in Africa’s education system.

The Chief Executive Officer, CloudNotte, Mary Matthew, emphasised the need for collaboration between the government, private sector, and stakeholders to improve education in Nigeria.

“The government is trying, but there is a need to do more. The private sector is also trying, but when you look at government schools, there is so much to be done,” Matthew said.

Also, the BOI announced that schools can now access up to ₦5 million under the FGN/MSME Intervention Fund at a nine per cent interest rate for three years.

BOI’s Divisional Head for MSMEs in the South-South, Pacqueens Irabor, said the funding will enable schools to equip themselves with digital tools and infrastructure.

On her part, the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board’s (RSUBEC) Strategic Planning and ICT Officer, Stella Atukomi, emphasised the importance of integrating accurate data into school growth strategies.

“Before you plan, you need information, and that information is key to decision-making in the state,” Atukomi said. NAPPS Chairman in the state, Sunday Jaja, stressed the need for school leaders to adapt quickly to emerging trends, especially with the planned migration to Computer-Based Testing (CBT) by the various examination bodies.
