GTT Data expands India ops, to create 500 tech jobs by 2028
Pune-based software firm GTT Data Solutions announced on Tuesday that the company is expanding its presence in Sangli, Maharashtra, by hiring talent from local engineering colleges and shifting its registered office from Kolkata to Sangli.
In an interview with TechCircle in May, Gopal Patwardhan, CEO of GTT, mentioned that the company is already on an expansion spree and is working on establishing technology Centers of Excellence in cities like Chennai or Bengaluru.
Since its inception a year ago, GTT Data Solutions, formerly Cinerad Communications, is advancing its position in the dual intelligence space through a strategic combination of acquisitions and the further development of its proprietary products, the latest being its integration of Alpharithm Technologies, Alpharithm Singapore, and CRG Solutions, GTT has expanded its Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven automation, data analytics, and digital transformation capabilities.
Currently, GTT Data Solutions has a talent force of 700 employees out of which 70 employees are currently working at their Sangli capability centre, and GTT Data aims to increase this number to 500 at Sangli over the next three years. With a strong commitment to providing local employment opportunities and fostering the thriving IT ecosystem, GTT Data aims to bolster its position as the region’s leading employer for IT talent.
Sangli, known for its pool of engineering graduates with approximately 18 engineering colleges, presents an untapped potential for IT development. By focusing on hiring local talent and reducing migration to metropolitan cities, GTT Data intends to create a sustainable and flourishing IT hub within the city. The creation of IT jobs in Sangli is projected to contribute to the local economy, stimulating growth in ancillary industries and boosting overall development. This aligns with a broader industry trend, where hiring in Tier 2 and 3 cities has seen a 25-35% increase from 2023 to 2024, driven by companies seeking to optimise attrition and operational costs.
“We already have a development centre in Sangli, and we intend to scale it up significantly,” said Pankaj Samani, Managing Director at GTT Data. “Our goal is to become a category-one employer in the town, ensuring that local engineering graduates have access to high-quality employment opportunities without having to relocate.”
The company’s decision to relocate its registered office to Sangli stems from its deep-rooted connections with the city, as the company said in a press release that many of its early investors hail from Sangli, and several of its key leadership figures have strong ties to the region. This transition reflects GTT Data’s commitment to not only business growth but also community development.
GTT Data will continue to expand in smaller cities as engines of economic growth and technological advancement. Currently, Sangli can boast of having 20-25 Tech companies owned by Founders, it said.
“Our focus is to build a robust talent pipeline by hiring fresh graduates from the many colleges in Sangli and providing them with training and development opportunities,” Patwardhan said in a statement, adding, “While these graduates possess exceptional technical capabilities, we also emphasise enhancing their soft skills and communication to align them with industry standards,” he added.
According to Patwardhan, “From AI expertise and advanced data analytics to leadership and critical thinking, we want to equip these young minds with important skills to help them thrive in the current tech landscape.”
In February, the company announced its plan to acquire a 100 per cent stake in Alpharithm Technologies a Chennai-based firm that specialises in the research and development of media software, computer software and hardware solutions, and BPO services. The Company reported Rs 16.53 crores revenue for the year of 2024-25.
