Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with representatives of the World Bank and IFC
Today, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with the World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Ms. Antonella Bassani, the World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia Ms. Tatyana Proskuryakova and the Regional Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for Central Asia and Turkey Ms. Wiebke Schloemer.
During the conversation, the guests particularly noted the high achievements of Turkmenistan, confidently moving forward along the path of economic reforms. Having highly appreciated the domestic and foreign policies of Turkmenistan, they emphasized the important role of the legal status of neutrality of the country in strengthening peace on the planet and the significance of international initiatives.
The National Leader of the Turkmen people expressed confidence that the upcoming meetings during the visit will contribute to a productive exchange of views on the current state and promising areas of economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the World Bank, and wished success to the negotiations.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized the effective nature of the dialogue established between Turkmenistan and the World Bank. As noted, over the years of partnership, the Bank has participated in financing a number of projects of great importance for the sustainable socio-economic development of the country in such areas as healthcare, education, transport, communications, and energy.
The transport sector Is also one of the most important strategic areas for Turkmenistan. Particular attention is paid to the coordination of various modes of transport and, for these purposes, measures are being taken to create multifunctional and regionally significant international transport corridors in the North-South and East-West directions.
In this regard, the need to intensify international trans-Caspian transportation and fully utilize the existing potential was emphasized. The international seaport of Turkmenbashy, connecting the European and Asian regions, has great potential for increasing transit capacity.
Turkmenistan’s readiness to expand mutually beneficial cooperation with the World Bank and consider its specific proposals for participation in ongoing projects in the area of creating transport corridors was confirmed, TDH reports.
