Gurugram Home tour: Unconventional design places formal rooms in the basement for a family home in India

Art acquisition proved complicated. “The son of the home wasn’t too sure about incorporating art initially,” the designers recall. They worked with his wife to gradually introduce pieces, often timing purchases around favourable pricing. The strategy succeeded: “Now he’s actively investing in art on a regular basis.”

Origami artist Ankon Mitra created a paper installation that references Radhakrishna Rasleela, reflecting the client’s religious interests. The piece uses traditional Shibori dyeing techniques applied to folded paper forms. “It’s not an obvious representation but an artistic interpretation,” the designers note.
