Henry Cavill’s Live-Action Voltron Movie Gets a Major Update

Henry Cavill’s live-action Voltron movie has just received an exciting update. The movie has officially wrapped production.

A post shared on Voltron Official’s Instagram page shared the news along with a message from producer Bob Koplar. “Our live-action Voltron film has officially wrapped production, and we’re THRILLED with how it all went,” the message reads. “I’ve been with this franchise for years and can proudly say that this WILL be the Voltron experience our fans have been dreaming of.”

Koplar also told fans to sit tight for official news about the movie’s launch. “There’s been some chatter out there about the plans for the film’s launch and we’d like to assure you, when official plans are set for the film, you will be the first to hear it right here. Stay with us! I promise it’ll be worth the wait.”

A live-action Voltron film has been in the works dating all the way back to July 2005, with the most recent attempt being announced in 2022. Based on a story by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story), the new Voltron adaptation is produced and directed by Thurber along with Koplar, Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman for Amazon MGM Studios.

Cavill will star as King Alfor, with the film marking Daniel Quinn-Toye’s feature film debut as Shiro. Sterling K. Brown, Rita Ora, John Harlan Kim, Alba Baptista and Samson Kayo are also set to star. The premise of the film sees five piloted Robot Lions combining to form the ultimate humanoid robot, Voltron, and battling evil. While re-imagining the franchise in a live-action format, Voltron has been said to “introduce an entirely new generation” of pilots while staying true to the “heart and spirit” of the original series.

Voltron Filming Began Back in December

The last update for Henry Cavill’s Voltron film was back in December, when principal photography for the production began in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. Koplar and Voltron Official also celebrated this milestone for the picture with another Instagram post, which showed the cameras rolling. Other than this, news about Amazon’s Voltron live-action film has been kept under wraps until now.
