Henry Lau has done some traveling lately. The Canadian singer-songwriter recently visited Mallorca and Germany for his new musical variety show Moving Voices, in which the cast performs on the streets, collaborating with local talent and international musical stars. Soon he’s headed for Dubai to perform at a MetaMoon Festival celebrating Asian artists.
Lau, known simply as Henry, is a former member of the k-pop group SuperJunior-M, who began his solo career with the 2013 hit song Trap. Henry is also an actor, with credits as diverse as the U.S. production A Dog’s Journey and the Chinese action-fantasy movie Double World, the k-dramas Oh My Venus and Persevere Goo Hae-ra, and the drama-spoofing Dramaworld. Hosting reality shows is one of his favorite jobs, especially when the shows involve music. In Moving Voices, he performs with all the Korean cast members, which include Mamamoo’s Hwasa and actress-singer Suzy Bae, then invites local artists—from flamenco dancers to pop stars to classical buskers—to perform with them.
“It’s all about blending music, fun challenges, and creativity,” said Henry. “I think fans will really enjoy the unique mix of entertainment. It airs every Saturday on a Korean broadcasting network, and it’s been such a meaningful experience for me. It’s been a while since I’ve worked on a music reality show, so it wasn’t always easy, but it gave me so many great memories that I’ll cherish.”
So far international fans can only access the show on YouTube, but that hasn’t prevented Moving Voices from attracting attention.
“It’s available on YouTube,” said Henry. “And one song of mine from the show was a trending video on YouTube for over a week.”
Moving Voices gives Henry the chance to perform with some of the instruments he plays—piano, violin, drums and guitar. Most importantly, he says, it provides the chance to interact with so many musicians around the world and that brings him happiness.
“Music variety shows are more than just activities for me; they feel like an essential part of who I am,” he said. “They always bring me new energy and joy, serving as a constant source of motivation. Through these shows, I get to challenge myself and grow, which is why I’m always grateful to be a part of them.”
Now that he’s wrapped up some filming in Europe his next stop is Dubai. The MetaMoon Festival celebrating Asian pop culture and artists will debut in the United Arab Emirates on Feb. 15 at the Al Wasl Plaza, Expo City Dubai.
Henry Lau will next perform at the MetaMoon Festival in Dubai.
MetaMoon Festival
Henry will be joined by k-pop singer Lee Young-ji, rising Japanese-American pop singer-songwriter mikah, Red Bull Dance Your Style champion MT Pop from Vietnam and DJ Poon from New York City. Rapper and comedian MC Jin will serve as the concert host.
“I’m really excited,” said Henry. “It’ll be my first time in Dubai performing and I can’t wait to meet the fans and feel the energy of the city that I have heard so much about.”
Henry recently performed at a MetaMoon Festival at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn. The audience response was gratifying.
“It was amazing,” said Henry. “The crowd’s energy was unreal, and seeing everyone sing along was unforgettable. It really was so incredible to perform in New York, which was my first time. Hope to visit the city again soon.”
It’s not just the first Dubai performance for Henry. Promoted and produced by Live Nation Middle East, the concert will be the first Dubai performance for all of the artists.
