Here’s what is happening in Premiership shake-up. It’s mostly good news
The most significant shake-up in the 29 seasons of professional club rugby in England could lead to a new club competing in the Gallagher Premiership in September. Theoretically, Coventry could take their place in the elite, restoring their reputation as one of the greatest clubs in history, if their detailed development plans, new hotel and player recruitment move quickly enough.
And if Premiership Rugby, the body that runs the league, picks up its traditional slow pace, caused partly by panic at the rocky road that the top flight has been travelling.
Our contacts inside Premiership Rugby and the RFU indicate that they are ready to tread the new path with enthusiasm, that they realise that sports such as cricket and American football are seeking globalisation
