Here’s Why Dove Cameron Deleted Her Old Songs
For years, fans have wondered why Dove Cameron deleted some of her most popular songs from music platforms right when “Boyfriend” took off in 2022. So, which songs did she remove and why the decision to delete them? Keep reading to find out.
During a 2022 interview with PopBuzz, Dove explained her decision to remove some of her old music — and it all came down to authenticity and creative evolution.
“I very strongly feel like I finally know who I am authentically, rather than kind of stumbling and trying to figure out who that is,” she shared. “I finally feel like I’m the person who I have always known myself to be privately but now I get to be that person publicly. And I really feel that my new music represents that more so than music I’ve created in the past.”
The Descendants alum added that she hadn’t expected to reach this point in her artistry, but once she did, a clean slate felt necessary. “I think that as an artist, that’s something that I never really anticipated arriving at. We all had a discussion internally and we just felt that we wanted a fresh start with what we’re doing going forward as it feels so right. We really want to invite everybody into this new world that we’re creating.”
Surprisingly, Dove also revealed that when she first wrote “Boyfriend,” she wasn’t sold on the song’s potential.
“I didn’t even really think [‘Boyfriend’] was very good if I’m honest,” she admitted. “I wrote it and I sent it to my label and then I went about writing a bunch of other songs because it was the very first song I sat down to write. So it’s the same thing. I’ll write a song now and I’ll send it to the label and keep going and they’re like, ‘Wait, this is maybe really good!’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, really? Okay.’ So it just seems to be in this weird, good organic space. It’s a good problem to have where you don’t know what you’re gonna release next.”
Which Songs Did She Delete?
Dove deleted several songs from streaming platforms, including “LazyBaby,” “Bloodshot,” “Waste,” “We Belong,” “Remember Me,” “Out of Touch,” and “So Good.”
