High-level J&K BJP delegation to visit New Delhi to pitch for comprehensive packages

Jammu, Sep 7: A high-level delegation of J&K BJP would visit New Delhi after September 11 to reach out to different union ministries to seek comprehensive flood rehabilitation packages under different sectors for reconstruction of flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.

“The visit is scheduled between September 11-17, the exact itinerary of which is being chalked out. On September 10 and 11, all BJP MLAs are scheduled to remain stationed in their respective assembly segments for expediting flood relief and restoration works. After September 11, the delegation will immediately leave for the union capital. Fragmented into separate teams, BJP MLAs will prevail upon different (central government) departments to ensure adequate compensation for different sects of affected people,” BJP MLA from Udhampur East, R S Pathania told Greater Kashmir.

In fact this information was first shared by the Leader of Opposition in J&K Legislative Assembly Sunil Sharma on Saturday, September 6, 2025, while responding to media persons on the sidelines of an event organised by the party MLA Arvind Gupta for flood relief distribution.

“A high-level delegation of (J&K) BJP will leave for New Delhi soon. Different teams or committees of BJP MLAs, who would be part of this delegation, would approach different central government departments including Finance, Agriculture, UEED (Housing and Urban Development Department) and plead for generous comprehensive packages for rehabilitation, reconstruction and restoration of flood ravaged Jammu and Kashmir,” Sunil Sharma said.

With regard to a question if Rs 209 crore central assistance was enough for relief and rehabilitation of flood ravaged Jammu region, LoP said that there was confusion about it (central aid) among many.

“I would like to remove confusion about it through the media. Mind it, Rs 209 crore, which Centre has already released to the UT Disaster Response Fund (UT-DRF) and the package being sought are two different things. Rs 209 crore under SDRF (UT-DRF) as central share were released for immediate rescue and relief works. Central package is being sought for rehabilitation and reconstruction of damaged private structures, public infrastructure also comprising road, bridges and essential services infra including water, power, hospitals,” he clarified.

“I failed to understand why people were deliberately trying to create confusion about Rs 209 crore central assistance under UTDRF. We have even divided relief under different heads. As BJP MLAs and MPs have contributed Rs 35.5 crore. CMs of BJP ruled states too have contributed to J&K for flood relief. Our Madhya Pradesh CM gave Rs 20 crore while Haryana CM pledged Rs 5 crore and Delhi CM also contributed. Our other CMs will also contribute. But this is not part of the package (to be granted by the Centre). Prime Minister and Home Minister have already assured that all flood affected will be rehabilitated,” LoP said.

Presently central Inter-Ministerial Team (IMT) is on J&K visit, conducting tours to all affected districts for exact assessment of losses caused by heavy rains and rain-induced flash floods, cloud bursts, landslides and other natural calamities.
