GOUVERNEUR — Gouverneur Central School will complete its regular season by hosting Malone at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the final varsity game on Frank LaFalce Field.
Gouverneur has played for 50 years on the field named after the legendary coach and the site has been sacred ground for Wildcat teams in that span.
As the only Class C team in Section 10, Gouverneur will advance to the New York State Tournament.
The school district and football program will note the history of the field and the late Coach LaFalce with special activities Saturday.
LaFalce was the face of Gouverneur Central football for decades and a beloved teacher and coach. His coaching tenure included several championships with teams that played with toughness and a love for their school and community.
Current Coach Sean Devlin has continued the tradition, producing several titles. Gouverneur is 4-2 this season.
Saturday’s game will also be the Gouverneur Wall of Fame Game and the team’s Senior Game.
The school district is currently constructing new athletic venues for next season.
