According to Honda, the Amaze compact sedan accounts for roughly 53 per cent of its total car sales in India.

Honda Cars India is celebrating the ten-year anniversary of the Amaze compact sedan in our market, with the first-generation model being launched back in 2013. The Japanese carmaker has sold over 5.3 lakh units of the Amaze in India cumulatively, with Honda crossing the 5 lakh unit milestone just a few months back in September 2022. According to Honda, the Amaze also accounts for roughly 53 per cent of its total sales in India.

The second-gen Amaze was launched in 2018, with the model getting a facelift in 2021. The compact sedan is currently available solely with a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 90 hp and 110 Nm. This engine can be had with either a five-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox, with the former returning a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 18.6 kpl and the latter returning 18.3 kpl.

The previously offered 100 hp, 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine was discontinued earlier in the year as it would be too costly to upgrade it to comply with the Real Driving Emission (RDE) norms that came into effect on April 1, 2023. Additionally, demand for the diesel powertrain had been on a decline over the past few years, with Honda stating that 90 per cent of the Amaze buyers in 2022 opted for the petrol variants.

Speaking on the occasion, Takuya Tsumura — President and CEO, Honda Cars India Limited, said, “Today marks a milestone in our India journey, as Honda Amaze completes a decade-long presence in this market with over 5.3 lakh customers. It is a strategic premium entry model in our portfolio offering ‘One Class Above Sedan Experience’ to our customers with its strong brand appeal, bold styling, excellent performance, durability, build quality, safety and comfortable experience. We’re glad the Amaze is significantly contributing to our India business and has become the best-selling model in our line-up.”
