‘How To Train Your Dragon’ Star Joins Osgood Perkins’ Latest Film

Osgood Perkins is a filmmaker who appears to be aiming for both quality and quantity. The writer/director has already set his sights on another upcoming project, even though his next film, Keeper, hasn’t yet been released in theaters. Following a social media post from distributor Neon revealing the title of that project (The Young People), the Hollywood Reporter has reported that a couple of actors have already signed on. With a screenplay and talent already attached to the film, as well as a set production start date, it’s also been reported that Neon will shop the film to potential buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival.

According to THR, Lola Tung and Nico Parker are set to star in The Young People, though details about the characters they’ll be playing are currently under wraps. Tung’s acting credits include the third season of the Prime Video original series The Summer I Turned Pretty and the upcoming horror movie Forbidden Fruits, while Parker recently had a supporting role in the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon and was also featured in the first season of HBO’s video game adaptation The Last of Us.

Perkins has had a fruitful relationship with Neon over the past few years, starting with their buzzy marketing for his well-received horror film Longlegs, starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage. The announcement of this next film going into production also came with the news that the filmmaker has inked a first-look deal with Neon. It’s a smart move on the studio’s part; Perkins is fast on the rise in the horror genre, alongside other trending genre filmmakers like Zach Cregger and his film Weapons.

On top of all this, Perkins has also launched a new banner called Phobos, which will help the writer/director produce movies from other filmmakers for Neon. The Young People is set to begin filming in October in Vancouver, though plot details are still being kept under wraps. His next movie, the Nick Lepard-scripted Keeper starring Tatiana Maslany, is now scheduled for release in November 2025 after being pushed back from its original October date.
