The Hurricanes made quick work of the New Jersey Devils in Round 1, finishing the series in five games, with only a Game 3 double-overtime loss on the road providing any sort of resistance. 27-year-old forward Sebastian Aho had a fantastic series, scoring three power-play goals with five assists, with winger Andrei Svechnikov adding five goals of his own.
Washington took a similar path to the second round, defeating the Montreal Canadiens in five games, also losing in Game 3 on the road. The NHL’s all-time leading scorer continues to find the back of the net, as Alex Ovechkin led the team with four goals during the series. Center Dylan Strome added two goals of his own and seven assists for the Caps, who last won the Stanley Cup in 2018.
Carolina and Washington split their four meetings during the regular season, with the home team winning every game.
