Commenting on the occasion, Unsoo Kim, Managing Director, HMIL, said, “Envisioning India at the heart of global manufacturing and commerce, Hyundai began its journey with the country 29 years ago with a vision of mutual progress. Today, we take immense pride in how far we have come – not just providing smart mobility solutions, but a future that reflects innovation, sustainability and a deep connection with our customers.”

Hyundai marked the beginning of its journey in India with the establishment of a manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. Since its inception, the facility has grown steadily, becoming a center of manufacturing excellence. Operations officially commenced in September 1998 with the launch of Hyundai’s first fully integrated car manufacturing plant outside South Korea.

To meet growing demand and position itself as a manufacturing hub, Hyundai aims to achieve cumulative annual production capacity of 1 million units by operationalising its Talegaon manufacturing facility recently acquired from General Motors. Further, the company recently allocated Rs 1,500 crore towards revamp and modernisation of its Chennai manufacturing facility.
