Auto News

Hyundai are targeting to regain the second spot in the Indian automobile market share and are lining up 26 cars including two strong hybrids to be launched by 2030.

Hyundai Creta

New Delhi: Hyundai Motor Company had sent a team to India to find why the local unit had slid down in the market share with an increase in competition. Hyundai  Motor India Ltd ended with FY25 with a 14 per cent market share, their lowest since FY13. Despite cars like Creta dominating the market, their second place has come under threat more lately.

In order to reclaim that spot, Hyundai India is planning to launch 26 cars by FY2030. This includes 20 internal combustion engines and six EVs and hybrid models, as confirmed by the company’s powers that be in the earnings call earlier in the day. For portfolio expansion, Hyundai is set to begin production from Talegain, Pune, by Q3 of 2026.

Hyundai targeting a return to second spot

Hyundai are targeting the second place, having been challenged by the likes of Mahindra and Tata Motors for a while. Hyundai noted that besides facelifts and upgrades, eight vehicles are slated. This will include the introduction of two strong hybrid models. During the quarterly earnings call, Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor has said that by the end of 2030, there will be 26 cars which will mix new models, model changes and product enhancements.

Industry analysts have pointed out that a lack of new variants and the performance of recent cars haven’t been up to the mark. Many pointed out that vars like Exter may have done well,m but it wasn’t able to capture Tata Punch’s market share.

Hyundai announced that they had sold 5,99,000 units domestically and 1,63,000 were exported. The company had a good FY2025 with the annual revenues standing at Rs 6,91,929 crores and EBITDA at Rs 89,538 crores. The Korean carmaker found most of its success in its SUVs, which contributed 68.5% of the domestic sales. In the mid-size SUV, Creta was the market leader, taking 30% of the market share. The mid-size SUVs have been a rage in India, and dominating the segment goes a long way for Hyundai.
