Hyundai to launch Genesis luxury cars in India: To rival German carmakers

Back in May 2025, Hyundai Motor India announced its plans to roll out 26 new vehicles in the country by FY2030. The upcoming range will include 20 models with conventional internal combustion engines, six battery‑powered electric vehicles, and select hybrid options. And now, the company has announced that it’s considering the launch of its luxury arm, Genesis, in India.Similar to Toyota’s luxury division, Lexus, Hyundai’s premium brand is known as GenesisIn its latest annual report, Tarun Garg, Whole‑time Director and COO of Hyundai Motor India, mentioned that the company is “assessing the introduction of Genesis to offer a new definition of luxury built on innovation, cutting‑edge design, and unique ownership experiences.” He further emphasised that this approach is aimed at meeting the rising aspirations of Indian customers who are seeking more premium and differentiated products. Genesis offers a lineup that spans sedans, SUVs, and electric vehicles, with key models including the G70, G80, GV60, GV70, and GV80. Positioned to rival established luxury carmakers, the brand is now preparing to enter the Indian market as Hyundai seeks to capitalise on the rising demand for premium automobiles.

26 new vehicles by FY2030As mentioned previously, Hyundai Motor India plans to roll out 26 new vehicles including six battery electric vehicles and 20 ICE, Hybrid models. At the core of this growth strategy is Hyundai’s upcoming Talegaon manufacturing plant, scheduled to begin operations in FY2025–26. The facility is expected to significantly boost production capacity for both internal combustion engine and electric vehicles.To keep its lineup competitive and adapt to evolving customer preferences, Hyundai introduced 20 updates across its range in FY2024–25. These included key enhancements such as a dual-cylinder CNG option for the EXTER, the addition of a sunroof in lower trims of the VENUE, an entry-level eCNG variant for the AURA, and a facelift for the ALCAZAR. A major highlight was the launch of the CRETA Electric, Hyundai’s first mass-market electric SUV, signaling a stronger push toward electrification.Hyundai Creta electricThe company also recorded a 33% year-on-year growth in CNG vehicle sales in rural regions, which helped increase rural contribution to overall sales from 19.4% to 20.9%. This surge underlines Hyundai’s strategy of offering affordable and low running-cost options for buyers outside urban centers.On the EV front, Hyundai is working toward a localized ecosystem to make electric mobility more accessible. Battery pack assembly has already begun at its Chennai facility, while plans for cell manufacturing in partnership with suppliers are in progress. Additionally, Hyundai has installed 80 fast chargers across key locations and aims to expand this number to over 600 within the next 6–7 years. This rollout is being supported with home-charging solutions and digital integration via the myHyundai CMS platform.
