When we grow up, we as individuals deal with several internal issues, insecurities and more. Some learn to deal with it along the way while some are still in the process. Even when you are an actor who is confident on the being on camera, you may still be very conscious of your appearance. Sonakshi Sinha is one actress who has always been open about her struggles with body image.

In an recent interview she talked about why body image is something that she still tries to manage. The ‘Heeramandi’ star revealed that owing to this, there is one thing that she avoids doing I India that on highlights the dilemma of the privacy of public figures.

‘Dabangg’ actress shared why she does not prefer swimming in India. “I always felt conscious while wearing swimwear, especially while growing up. I don’t swim in Mumbai or in this country because I don’t know when someone will secretly take a picture and send it across. I don’t want it to be splashed all over the internet. I swim when I travel, I dive,” she told Hauterfly.

It is not like Sinha does not enjoy the water, but it is the deeply entrenched vulnerabilities that play out. And not to forget how the fear of “koun kab photo khichle” is a constant in the back of the head.

However, this is not the first time she spoke about it. In an old interview she once also shared how her mother used to ask her to lose weight and where the root cause lies to it. “Absolutely this conditioning happens when you are a child. I remember my mother telling me constantly to lose weight. And when somebody was constantly saying that to you, the rebellious kid in me would always do the opposite and the day my mother stopped telling me that’s when it actually struck me that I need to do something about my weight,” the actress spoke.

She had further explained how these things may begin at home and it is not the fault of the mothers who probably themselves grew up with that.

Body shaming, body image issues, trolling that ensues does take a toll on mental health. Hence, having open conversations about it is essential.
