I made my car ‘smell like Dior’ by spending 79p at Home Bargains

The budget-friendly option did not disappoint – and they’ve made my car smell like a luxury fragrance

As soon as you crack open the packet, the fragrance hits you. I’m so pleased that people think my car smells like luxury when all I did was spend less than a pound in Home Bargains.

I’ve covered a lot about the discounts and deals you can find in Home Bargains as a shopping writer. But some finds still manage to surprise me as I comb the aisles – and I never expected to find something interesting in the motoring section.

If you’re like me, you’ve probably had one of those basic air fresheners shaped like trees in your car at some point. They smell OK for a while but soon fade into the background. I was in need of a refresh as my last tree smelled like it was on its last legs.

I was in Home Bargains anyway and thought they might have something cheap, interesting – or both. What I bought wasn’t something I expected to find, but I’m hoping they never discontinue it, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The Designer Fragrances Savore line is often compared to the pricer Dior Sauvage. Both have similar fresh and citrusy notes, but one is far cheaper.

I’m a fan of the scent anyway – having already stocked up on the at-home air fresheners and body sprays that are sold in Home Bargains. So, now that there’s a way to get my car smelling the same as my house, I was all in.

The brand recently came out with a line of hanging air fresheners at Home Bargains that come in four varieties – Savore, One Billion, Xalien and Tu Es Belle. People have compared these budget products to the likes of Dior as well as Paco Rabanne’s 1 Million, Alien by Mugler and Lancome’s La Vie Est Belle.

I also got the One Billion freshener for my brother as it’s one of his favourites. He said it smelled just like the air freshener cans he uses at home.

The string is just the right length to position the air freshener optimally without obstructing your driving. It could also be hung around the house if you wanted to quickly freshen up a specific room without resorting to an air freshener can.

I’m now eager to offer people lifts, as I’ve already had passengers assume I’ve spritzed some £100 aftershave to mask any unpleasant car odours. But the secret behind my car’s luxurious aroma isn’t hidden.

Shoppers can find these air fresheners at Home Bargains. Each variant costs a mere 79p, so it’s wise to stock up on your favourites – I know I will be!
