I will get alienated from the day I start making bad movies, says Indian movie star Fahadh Faasil
MUSCAT : In an exclusive conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Fahadh Faasil opened up about his love for storytelling that challenges norms, his minimalist lifestyle, and his strict boundaries with social media. With his highly anticipated Tamil film Maareesan set to release on July 25, 2025, the actor says the film is “the kind of cinema I live for.”
Directed by Sudheesh Sankar and written by V. Krishna Moorthy, Maareesan stars Fahadh Faasil alongside Vadivelu and Kovai Sarala. The actor, often praised for his ability to bring depth to complex characters, emphasized his commitment to honest storytelling and the slow, deliberate process behind building his roles.
“I’ll get alienated from the day I start making bad movies,” he said, reflecting on the evolving expectations of younger audiences. He talks about how the Gen Z generation will alienate him when he starts making bad films.
Known as much for his performances as for his elusive presence online, Faasil revealed that he has been using a basic phone for over a year, aiming to limit distractions and create structure in his day. “I’m not completely off the grid. I just prefer having dedicated slots for checking emails and replying. I’m not saying it’s not essential. But now I’ve structured things in a way that I am accessible when needed. There’s a method to all of that. But that has nothing to do with being active on social media,” he said.
With Maareesan, a film he says he “lives for,” and his steadfast belief in giving stories the time they deserve, Fahadh continues to chart his own unique course.
