Ice Age Finally Ends 11-Year Drought With New Movie Release Date
The Ice Age films have been on ice for a decade at this point, but that’s all going to end as the release date for Ice Age 6 has finally been announced. Ice Age has been one of the most quiet hits of a franchise for 20th Century Fox. When the first film made its debut back in 2002, it made a small splash among animation fans but was such a hit that Fox and Blue Sky Studios returned for a follow up a few years later. But when Blue Sky Studios themselves shut down back in 2021, the future of the franchise was thrown into question.
A sixth Ice Age film has been rumored to be in development from stars like John Leguizamo, and was even confirmed to be in the works back in 2024. The film was then slated for a potential release in Dec 2026, but a new release date has been set as Walt Disney Studios has indeed now confirmed the film even further. Announced during the Destination D23 2025 weekend, Ice Age 6 now has a new title and is confirmed to be releasing in February 2027.
Ice Age: Boiling Point Confirms Release Date
Now carrying the title of Ice Age: Boiling Point, the sixth film in the Ice Age franchise is scheduled for a release in theaters on February 5, 2027. The new film is teased by Disney to be “a dinosaur-and-lava-filled madcap adventure that takes Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, Scrat and the rest of the herd to visit never-before-seen corners of the treacherous Lost World.” This is going to be the first full film in the animated franchise since the release of Ice Age: Collision Course back in 2016, the final film in the franchise to be produced with the staff at Blue Sky Studios before its closure.
Ice Age: Boiling Point will be bringing back its main voice cast of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary, and Simon Pegg for the new entry, but it’s currently unclear as to which of the extended family members or character rosters from the later films will be returning for the sixth movie. But at this time, Ice Age is now more popular than it ever has been before as it’s starting to pop up in the strangest of places like the new Alien: Earth series.
How to Catch Up With the Ice Age Movies
Disney
Although this is the first new film hitting theaters since 2016, there have been some new Ice Age entries over the last decade. This has included the likes of The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild and Ice Age: Scrat Tales, which can be found streaming with Disney+ and Hulu on Disney+ much like the previous five films. These two entries were exclusive to the platform with Ice Age: Scrat Tales helping Blue Sky Studios bid goodbye to fans with its special finale released online shortly after its premiere.
There was even a brief period where it seemed like Disney would be moving forward without characters like Scrat in the Ice Age franchise due to licensing rights, but that’s not the case anymore as Scrat has been teased along with the rest of the characters making their comeback in the next film. Now it’s just a matter of waiting to see what the future holds for these new defrosted icons.
