IHG Hotels & Resorts has unveiled the launch of its 50th operational hotel in India with the opening of a Crowne Plaza property in Lucknow, signifying a milestone in IHG’s expansion within the country’s premium hospitality sector.

The new property is situated along the Lucknow-Sultanpur Road, providing access to areas such as the IT hub Shahid Path and the local cricket stadium.

The hotel boasts 110 rooms and 40,000ft² of meeting and event spaces, positioning it as a venue for social meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) events.

Additionally, the property features an all-day dining restaurant, a bar, a club lounge, a gymnasium, and an outdoor pool, catering to the needs of both business and leisure travellers.

Last year, IHG demonstrated its commitment to growth in India by signing 18 new hotels across its brand portfolio, with nearly 30% of these signings in the premium and luxury segments.

With a current pipeline of around 70 hotels, IHG is set to more than double its Indian portfolio over the next five years.

The upcoming properties include five InterContinental hotels, ten Crowne Plaza hotels and five voco hotels, all expected to open within the next two to five years.

IHG Hotels & Resorts South West Asia managing director Sudeep Jain said: “We are committed to accelerating our expansion across brand segments, with several more hotels in the pipeline this year.

“Our goal is to deepen our presence in high-growth cities and deliver exceptional hospitality experiences across all segments, from mainstream, premium to luxury to domestic and international guests alike.”

IHG’s current Indian portfolio features hotels across five brands, including InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, Crowne Plaza, Six Senses, Holiday Inn Resort, and Holiday Inn Express.

IHG Hotels & Resorts MEA & Southwest Asia managing director Haitham Mattar said: “India remains one of our most strategic markets, globally, and we are excited about the opportunities it presents as we continue to bring our diverse portfolio of brands to more locations.

“While mainstream brands such as Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Garner continue to remain our growth drivers in the country, we are strengthening our premium and luxury portfolio with our iconic and well-established brands such as Crowne Plaza, InterContinental, and Six Senses.”

In a separate development, a white paper by Crowne Plaza revealed a shift towards blending work and leisure among travellers, noting that 33% of Indian travellers have experienced blended travel, the highest percentage among the surveyed countries.

Furthermore, IHG recently entered a management agreement with Girija Land Ventures to develop the Crowne Plaza Resort Jim Corbett in Uttarakhand, further expanding its footprint in India.
