Through Jigyasa, IIT Delhi aims to foster curiosity, promote scientific thinking, and inspire the next generation by making complex scientific concepts understandable and relevant to diverse audiences.NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has launched a new outreach initiative titled ‘Jigyasa’ aimed at demystifying scientific research and making it accessible to the general public. Spearheaded by the institute’s Academic Outreach office, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between advanced research and public understanding by taking scientific work beyond the walls of laboratories and into educational institutions and community spaces.The initiative was inaugurated on May 12 at J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad, as part of National Technology Day celebrations. The event brought together researchers, students, and faculty from IIT Delhi and JC Bose University to showcase their work through interactive posters, demonstrations, and expert-led discussions.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sushil Kumar Tomar, Vice Chancellor of JC Bose UST, and Prof. Maithili Sharan of the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences at IIT Delhi, emphasized the significance of indigenous technological development and reflected on the legacy of India’s nuclear program. Their talks set the tone for the day’s theme of innovation and scientific exploration.
The post-lunch session featured Prof. Chetan Arora from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Delhi, who presented ongoing research in artificial intelligence. His address was followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion on “Artificial Intelligence: A Replacement or Augmentation for Human Intelligence”. The panel included IIT Delhi professors Brejesh Lall, Chetan Arora, and Prapanch Nair, with moderation by Prof. Ritabrata Thakur.
The event concluded with closing remarks from the JC Bose UST Vice Chancellor, who underscored the growing relevance of AI and the need for responsible integration of such technologies into daily life.
