India-Australia tourism gets a boost with Air India-Virgin Australia codeshare, India-Australia tourism, Air India-Virgin Australia, AI codeshare

In order to boost its connectivity between India and Australia, Air India has inked a deal with Virgin Australia allowing Air India to place its AI code on Virgin Australia flights. The partnership will offer passengers seamless connectivity beyond Sydney and Melbourne to 16 destinations in Australia and New Zealand.

One of the best parts of this codeshare is Air India passengers can fly on a single ticket and have their baggage checked through the entire journey.

The 16 cities in Australia and New Zealand include: Adelaide, Ballina/Byron Bay, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Darwin, Gold Coast, Hamilton Island, Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Queenstown (New Zealand), Sunshine Coast, and Sydney.

Pleased to partner with Air India to make it easier for their customers to explore everything Australia has to offer Alistair Hartley, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, Virgin Australia said: “India is a growing tourism market for Australia and this partnership will encourage travellers arriving on one of Air India’s 14 weekly flights to explore more of our wonderful country thanks to seamless onward connections on the Virgin Australia network.”

Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India, highlighted the importance of the partnership, emphasising that it offers greater accessibility to the Indian diaspora and holidaymakers eager to explore Australian attractions like the Great Barrier Reef and Tasmania.

Presently Air India operates 14 non-stop weekly flights from Delhi to Melbourne and Sydney deploying its Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
