India is set to host the World Para Athletics Championships for the first time at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, from September 27 to October 5. Over 2,200 para-athletes from 100 countries will participate in 186 medal events, making it one of the largest editions to date. The event marks a milestone not just for Indian sports, but also for the country’s journey toward becoming a leader in inclusive sports.
Svayam, the official Accessibility Partner, has played a crucial role in preparing the venues and infrastructure to ensure smooth participation for athletes. Founded by Sminu Jindal, Svayam has previously supported global events like the Tokyo and Paris Paralympics and is now bringing that expertise home.
Sminu Jindal, Founder of Svayam, said “Hosting this championship shows that accessibility and inclusion are possible at scale. It’s a step towards making India a global leader in inclusive sports.” Svayam conducted accessibility audits at 13 hotels and training venues, and is also providing customised transport to help athletes commute smoothly.

Para-athlete Simran Sharma, a bronze medallist from the 2024 Paris Paralympics, praised the efforts. She said proper transport and accessible facilities are essential not just for comfort but for athletes’ performance.
The event is also being seen as a stepping stone for India’s ambition to host the Olympics in the future. Svayam, along with the Sports Authority of India, Delhi Police, and DTC, is ensuring training and sensitisation across support teams to create a truly inclusive sporting environment.
