India-made Suzuki e Vitara to be crash tested by Euro NCAP soon: 5-star rating on cards? – Car News

Internationally, the Suzuki e Vitara is available in two battery options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh.

Suzuki launched the e Vitara in the United Kingdom earlier in February this year shortly after it made its debut in India at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January. While the Indian audience awaits for the launch of e Vitara, which is likely to take place next month, the electric SUV has started gaining traction in Europe as well.

Now, it has come to light that the Suzuki e Vitara has undergone or will undergo a safety crash test at Euro New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP). The official website of Euro NCAP has listed e Vitara thus confirming that the results and evaluation of the vehicle’s safety crash test will be published soon.

It should be noted, India is the global production hub for the Suzuki e Vitara which is produced at the company’s Hansalpur-based facility in Gujarat. Therefore, the e Vitara unit to be tested by Global NCAP must have been manufactured in India. This will be the first instance where a  made-in-India Maruti Suzuki or Suzuki vehicle will be crash tested by Euro NCAP.

While Suzuki will be eyeing gold, it is very well known that earning a 5-star safety rating at Euro NCAP is a very challenging task since the regulations are much stricter than Global or Bharat NCAP. To achieve good results, the Euro-spec Suzuki eVitara SUV is likely to pack additional safety features required to score high in Euro NCAP.

Speaking of safety, the e Vitara comes equipped with seven airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system (ADAS), ABS with EBD, EPB, AVAS, 360-degree camera, and front and rear parking sensors. The e Vitara will also be the first Maruti to boast of a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite which consists of automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure prevention, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, and more.

Earlier in February this year, images of the e Vitara being crash tested were leaked, however, it was reported that the images were part of an internal crash test by Maruti Suzuki. The e Vitara crash test results by Euro NCAP are most likely to be published on September 10.
