India Set To Play Two More T20I Matches In USA On West Indies Tour – Reports

Team India will play two T20I matches against the West Indies in the United States of America at the Central Broward Park and Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida. According to the Cricbuzz reports, the two matches are part of the five-match T20I series during the West Indies tour in July-August 2023.

India will tour the West Indies for two Tests, a three-match ODI series, and a three-match T20I series as per the ICC FTP for 2023. However, the report suggests two additional T20I matches will be played in the United States of America. The Men in Blue also played the last two T20Is in the five-match series in Florida during their last tour.

According to Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) have agreed to play two additional T20Is in Florida following discussions at the recent ICC meetings in Dubai. A CWI official confirmed to the Cricbuzz website that the two additional games will be played in Florida like last year.

“That is the plan. Unless there is an unavoidable situation, the two extra games will be played in Florida, like last year,” Cricbuzz reported.

The report further added that the CWI will conduct matches with limited support from the USA Cricket Board, similar to the way the 2024 World Cup will be held.

“No to USAC. The CWI is the event host with special commercial relations and arrangements for local operations at the Broward Stadium. This is very similar to how the 2024 World Cup will operate for the US matches,” a CWI official said. A USAC official did not offer a comment.

Two matches were almost derailed last year due to visa issues, but a crisis was averted when Guyana’s president intervened at the last minute. The CWI had to rearrange flights to fly those without visas to Guyana in between the St. Kitts and Florida matches, which included some West Indians.

“The visa appointments in Trinidad were messed up beyond our control and, at great cost and inconvenience for all concerned, we had to rearrange to fly those without visas to Guyana, in between the St Kitts and Florida matches. It also included some West Indians,” the CWI official said.

According to Cricbuzz, the West Indies tour schedule has been shared with the BCCI and will be announced once the Indian board approves. Following the series against the West Indies, India will travel to Ireland for three Twenty20 internationals in August.
