India-UK FTA: TVS confirms Norton India launch this year – Bike News
After the initial batch of fully-imported models, TVS will most likely manufacture Norton motorcycles in India for domestic sales as well as exports.
India and United Kingdom inked a landmark UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that will mutually benefit both countries. The FTA takes place in the backdrop of growing economic relations between India and the UK as exemplified in the bilateral trade of about USD 60 billion which is projected to double by 2030.
According to the FTA, 99% Indian exports into the UK will benefit from zero duty. This includes auto parts and engines which means vehicles made in India and sold in the UK will be exempted from import duties. This will attract manufacturers in the UK to set up shop in India.
Reacting to this development, Sudarshan Venu, MD, TVS Motor Company, has applauded the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to enhance India’s trade links globally. He said, “ It creates large opportunities for Indian companies like ours to expand further and access new markets. We really appreciate the effort taken by the Government to make this historic India-UK Free Trade Agreement.”

Norton India launch this year
Venu went on to confirm that TVS will introduce the Norton brand of motorcycles later this year. Venu says that the India-UK FTA agreement “will help TVS scale faster and leverage common supply chains”. For the uninitiated, TVS acquired the iconic British motorcycle brand Norton Motorcycles in April 2020 through an all-cash deal valued at approximately £16 million (approx Rs 153 crore).
At the time of acquisition, Norton was facing financial difficulties and had entered administration. TVS’s acquisition aimed to revive the heritage brand and expand its global footprint. Following the acquisition, TVS invested over Rs 1,000 crore into Norton, focusing on product development, research and development, and establishing a new manufacturing facility in Solihull, UK, with an annual production capacity of around 8,000 motorcycles .

Last year, it was reported that TVS will launch six Norton motorcycles in India by 2027. Last month, a separate online media report claimed that TVS will build three sub-500cc motorcycles under the Norton brand in India. These new Norton motorcycles will be launched in the country sometime in 2028.
While Venu hasn’t confirmed a launch timeline for the upcoming Norton motorcycles in India, we expect TVS to launch the first Norton model sometime around the festive season later this year. And with the FTA agreement in place, the first set of Norton motorcycles are expected to be direct imports from UK.
