Indian Tourists Flock to Easy Global Destinations with Alike, ETTravelWorld
We arrived at our destination airport. Pushing luggage trolleys, we feel excited and relieved after our journey.Indian travellers are embracing friction-free global holidays, with Alike’s Free Visa Holidays campaign witnessing strong traction across metro cities and emerging urban hubs. The travel-tech platform’s initiative aims to ease one of the biggest hurdles for outbound tourism — complex and costly visa procedures — by focusing on destinations with simplified or waived visa processes.
The campaign is gaining popularity among first-time international tourists, particularly working professionals and migrants from smaller towns planning holidays to destinations such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Bali. For many, the combination of convenience, lower costs, and easy booking is transforming international travel from a distant aspiration to a tangible experience.
“We launched this campaign to remove the most common red tape Indian travellers face – the cost and complexity of the visa process,” said Ashish Sidhra, Co-founder of Alike. “The response has reinforced that people are ready to explore the world; they just want the friction taken out of the way.”
The shift is reflected in India’s evolving global mobility. In 2005, Indian passport holders had visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to just 25 countries. That figure has now crossed 90, with a compound annual growth rate of nearly 6% over two decades. During the same period, India’s outbound travel has expanded from 7 million to over 28 million trips in 2024.
Alike’s campaign not only supports this trajectory but also enhances the experience through itinerary planning tools and digital support. “We aren’t just handing out a freebie,” Sidhra added. “This is about building confidence in international travel — making it feel smooth, personal and accessible, especially for first-timers.”
