Indiana Jones Movies Return to Paramount+ and Pluto TV, But With 1 Big Catch

For more than four decades, the five movies making up the Indiana Jones film franchise have grossed more than $2.3 billion worldwide. The film series started with 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, which was directed by Steven Spielberg from a script by George Lucas, Philip Kaufman, and Lawrence Kasdan. Harrison Ford has portrayed archaeology professor Indiana Jones in all five of the movies, with the latest one being 2023’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

The Indiana Jones franchise is now in a tricky predicament as two different movie studios have ties to the films. The first four Indiana Jones movies, which include Raiders, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Krystal Skull (2008), were all released by Lucasfilm under Paramount. But that was before Lucasfilm was bought by The Walt Disney Company.

The Movies Haven’t Been on Paramount+ in Months

Disney now owns the Indiana Jones property and was the studio behind Dial of Destiny. As such, all five movies have been available to stream on Disney+ since the Lucasfilm acquisition. It’s been some time since Indiana Jones has made his way to Paramount’s streaming platforms, which include the paid Paramount+ and the ad-supported free Pluto TV.

Per Comic Book, beginning June 1, both Paramount+ and Pluto TV added the Indiana Jones movies back to their respective platforms, but fans will not find Dial of Destiny on either one. Fans will, however, be able to watch the first four franchise films on Paramount+ or Pluto TV. Disney+ will be needed, though, to stream Dial of Destiny.

Dial of Destiny Was Considered to be a Flop

Fans may not be all that disappointed that Dial of Destiny is not included on Paramount+ or Pluto TV, as it is a bit of a low point in the franchise. The James Mangold-directed film starred, in addition to Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, and Mads Mikkelsen. With a production budget of $300 million, the movie earned just $383.9 million worldwide, per The Numbers.

Ford on Dial of Destiny: “S**t Happens”

Ford previously touched on Dial of Destiny, taking full blame for its lack of success. “S**t happens,” Ford told The Wall Street Journal. “I was really the one who felt there was another story to tell. When (Indy) had suffered the consequences of the life he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened. I’m still happy I made that movie,” said Ford, who now stars in the Apple TV+ series Shrinking and Paramount+’s 1923.

Disney reportedly lost between $134 million and $143 million on Dial of Destiny. The movie was criticized for its pacing and for using de-aging technology to turn back the hands of time on Ford’s character. Despite all of that, the film boasts a respectable 70% critic score and an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The first four Indiana Jones films are streaming on Paramount+ and Pluto TV. Dial of Destiny, along with the rest of the franchise, is streaming on Disney+.
