India’s best-selling EV gets a price hike: Pros & Cons buyers should know before buying it – Car News
In less than ten months, MG Windsor EV has racked up nearly 30,000 unit sales ever since it was first launched in September 2024.
Tata Nexon EV was the highest-selling electric car in India for a long time until the MG Windsor arrived in September last year. The electric crossover set the sales charts on fire with its disruptive pricing thanks to the industry-first battery subscription model also known as Battery as a Service (BaaS).
The first model to get launched ever since MG Motor India joined hands with JSW, the Windsor EV has received its first price hike but only in select variants. Available in five trims namely Excite, Exclusive, Essence, Exclusive Pro, and Essence Pro, the latest price revision only affects the top-spec Essence Pro trim. Prices of all other variants remain unchanged.
Prices for the Essence Pro trim of MG Windsor have been increased by Rs 21,200 which brings the price of the trim to Rs 18.31 lakh. The latest price update reflects the company’s efforts to recalibrate pricing in line with input costs and market dynamics. Besides the price hike, there are no other changes in the above-mentioned trim. Prices for all variants of MG Windsor are mentioned below.
MG Windsor EV variants | Price (ex-showroom) | Price as BaaS (ex-showroom) |
Excite | Rs 14 lakh | Rs 10 lakh + Rs 3.0 per km |
Exclusive | Rs 15.05 lakh | Rs 10.99 lakh + Rs 3.90 per km |
Essence | Rs 16.15 lakh | Rs 11.99 lakh+ Rs 3.90 per km |

Essence Pro | Rs 18.31 lakh | Rs 13.09 lakh + Rs 4.50 per km |
Let us find out with the latest increase in price, if the MG Windsor Pro Essence Pro trim is still an enticing EV to consider. Here are all the Pros and Cons of MG Windsor Pro.
MG Windsor Pro EV: Pros
Here are all the Pros of MG Windsor Pro EV:
- Excellent real-world range & fast charging: Gets a larger 52.9 kWh battery giving an ARAI-claimed range of ~449 km, with real-world performance averaging 350–400 km per charge. Fast charging capability increases from 45 kW to 60 kW, allowing 0–80% charge in about 50 minutes
- Level-2 ADAS safety suite: Comes equipped with safety features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, Bend Cruise Assist, and more. Although the system has few inconsistencies, the overall response is well integrated with Indian roads.
- Roomy, premium, and well-equipped cabin: Comfortable cabin that can easily house five adults.
- V2L and V2V charging capabilities: The Pro variant adds Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Vehicle features, enabling the car to power appliances (V2L) or charge other EVs (V2V)—a unique convenience rarely seen at this price point
- Smooth ride and easy urban manoeuvrability: Maintains its supple ride and composed handling. Despite its size, driving feel remains light and manageable.
MG Windsor Pro EV: Cons
Here are all the Cons of MG Windsor Pro EV:
1. Persistent Dependence on Touchscreen Controls: Many secondary functions—mirror adjustment, lighting, and ADAS settings—are accessible only via the sluggish touchscreen, which may freeze or take time to boot, reducing usability
2. Missing Rear Wiper & Spare Wheel: Even in the fully equipped Pro, there’s no rear wiper or spare tyre, which is a glaring omission in monsoon or dusty conditions. Boot space is also reduced vs. the standard model due to lack of spare storage.
3. Ride Can Feel Unsettled Over Poor Roads: While generally comfortable, the rear suspension can transmit harsh jolts over potholes or broken surfaces. Taller passengers may find under‑thigh support lacking.
